Jane & Me – My Austen Heritage

With wit and warmth Caroline Jane Knight shares her extraordinary childhood growing up at Chawton House on her family’s ancestral estate where her fifth great aunt Jane Austen lived and wrote, and how the dramatic rise of Austen fandom has changed her life today. On show will be some heirlooms from Caroline’s private collection.

Christmas Ghost Tour at the Homestead with Lantern Ghost Tours

Visit one of Australia's original homesteads, only 20 minutes drive from Melbourne. The homestead has long had a reputation for hauntings and has been the center of paranormal investigations. The Langhorne family are long deceased but given their colourful history and the births, deaths and heartaches linked with the building, it is no surprise that the Homestead is alive with activity.

Christmas Eve with the Austen Family

Different amusements every evening! We had Bullet Pudding, then Snap-Dragon,’ Jane Austen’s favourite niece Fanny wrote in her diary in 1806.  And the family tradition of playing Snap-Dragon continued throughout Caroline’s childhood at Chawton House, on the ancestral estate where Jane Austen lived and wrote.  With a reading from her memoir Jane & Me: My Austen Heritage Caroline will share one her family’s most treasured traditions.
